There was weirdly a ton of hype yesterday at Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC, when an exec announced a calculator app for the Apple Watch. Luckily for everyone, that wasn’t the only announcement out of San Jose.

Wearables: Tim Cook called the Apple Watch an “intelligent guardian for your health.” It’s getting more capabilities, like menstrual cycle and loud noise tracking, plus its own App Store. The end goal is for the Watch to become a standalone device rather than an iPhone extension.

Voice: In the newly unveiled iOS 13, Siri will use “neural text-to-speech” for a more human-like voice. Apple also announced Voice Control, which lets users control MacOS, iOS, and iPadOS entirely through commands. And it works offline.

Finally, as Apple doubles down on its services business, it’s hoping that AI and augmented reality (AR) will breathe new life into non-hardware products. Apple Music and TV will soon deliver AI-boosted, personalized recommendations…and Apple showed off its new AR toolkit with a Microsoft Minecraft demo.
