While you were asking Alexa "What does the fox say?" smart home devices made their way into over half of American households.

54% of U.S. homes own at least one smart device, according to a Strategy Analytics survey released yesterday. The most popular smart devices are speakers (28% of homes), security systems (28%), and thermostats (21%). The full breakdown:

The timing isn't a coincidence

Strategy Analytics planned to drop the news during CES. The show is often written off as a place for gimmicky, far-off technology (like flying cars), but smart devices made the leap from the CES circuit to household mainstay pretty quickly.
